Our hearts naturally open when we sit with cats: both literally (they lower blood pressure and stress), and metaphorically (because they offer us unconditional love and acceptance). They also help us connect to these qualities within ourselves during meditation.
Cats live in the moment: through sharing meditation with them they can (and will!) help us to do the same. Let them teach you how to let go of worries and distractions so you can embrace feelings of gratitude + peace.
To optimise your wellbeing: Meditation provides many health benefits. Stress relief, increased focus/ memory and better sleep are just a few reasons to meditate, all supported by scientific research. Who better to learn and practice meditation with than 12 furry zen masters!
Carolyn Trethewey is a meditation teacher and life coach with a background in herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, Reiki and Animal Reiki (system of meditation and contemplation originating in Japan).
Her passion is teaching people how to meditate with animals, seeing them as our wise friends and teachers on the journey to awareness of both our beautiful human hearts and our interconnectedness with each other.
She views meditation as a gentle way to illuminate our true selves - the compassionate and loving people we all are, underneath the impact of our life experiences and upbringing. By setting an intention to welcome peace into our lives we can actively transform stress, promote self-acceptance and embrace true lasting happiness.
In this way meditation is a powerful tool for understanding how we are limited by our own ego. It facilitates a supportive pathway whereby we can learn to decipher and honour our intuitive voice, embrace uncertainty and take meaningful, inspired action towards heartfelt dreams and goals.
Regular meditation (with animals!) promotes a deeper understanding of our lives, including the collective impact of micro decisions made each day and the beliefs and values we hold within us that define who we are in the world.
It takes courage and vulnerability to self reflect in this way, however the Cat Café cats (Carolyn’s adorable co-teachers) are here to help you navigate that process!
Carolyn has travelled three times to the United States (2013, 2016 and 2019) for specialty training, sharing meditation with animals including tigers, a bear, leopards, tortoises and even an alligator!

This is an ongoing initiative for The Cat Cafe since 2018. This class is great for beginners in meditation, and for those with more experience who would like to learn about engaging animals in their practice. Carolyn's methods can be shared with any and all animals, so you can use the techniques learned with any of your pets or creature friends, not just cats.
We all need to take a moment to relax and decompress, and what better way than with the masterful teaching of rescue cats!
